Dysport

At Dr. Andrew Smith’s practice, he not only offers the popular BOTOX® Cosmetic but other treatments to help reduce temporarily reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and fine lines. Some women and men are turning to Dysport®. In Orange County, Dr. Smith offers this treatment, which is sometimes called a “cousin” to BOTOX. Both are designed to treat wrinkles and lines of the forehead and upper portion of the face. A Dysport treatment is similar to a BOTOX Cosmetic treatment, and may last even longer.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is FDA-approved and made with a purified form of botulinum toxin, the active ingredient in BOTOX. Dr. Smith uses Dysport for Irvine and other Orange County patients with “dynamic wrinkles,” such as smile lines or crow’s feet, that are caused by the movement of facial muscles. Like BOTOX, Dysport works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause these wrinkles. When the muscles are relaxed, the skin lays flat and those dynamic wrinkles are significantly reduced.

Why Would I Choose Dysport?

Dysport differs from BOTOX in several important ways:

  • Dysport may be better for treating larger areas because it spreads further from the injection site.
  • With Dysport, patients see results faster than they would with BOTOX.
  • Dysport may be more affordable than BOTOX.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Smith has the experience and training to make the most of this exciting new treatment. He also performs surgical facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift and eyelid surgery. For many women and men who want longer-lasting results, facial plastic surgery might be a better choice.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Dysport is performed in your surgeon’s office. Depending upon the number of areas to be treated, the procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes. Dysport is injected into the facial muscles that are causing your wrinkles, usually between your eyebrows and on your forehead. You may feel a slight pinch which may be avoided with a topical anesthetic.

After your Dysport injection, you may return to work or your normal routine right away. There may be some slight bruising or swelling but these are mild and can be easily covered with makeup.

When Will I See Results?

The results of Dysport are usually visible after 1 or 2 days and will last up to 6 months. The treatment is repeatable.

How Will I Look?

When Dysport is performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, you don’t have to worry about looking “frozen” or “fake.” You will not lose your facial expressions, so your results will look natural.
